The POIs dialog
Show every bank, toilet or campsite in view on the map while planning a route.
Open the dialog
View → POIs… opens the dialog. It sits below Show Shaded Hills in the View menu.
Choose categories
The dialog lists the categories of the offline POI data as a tree with check boxes. Checking a category selects all its subcategories. Each top-level category shows a colored dot — the color of its markers on the map. Category names are shown as the POI data contains them: English for Mapsforge POI data, English and German for OpenAndroMaps POI data.
Show on map
Checking a category switches Show on map on. Unchecking Show on map removes the POIs from the map; the checked categories stay. The POIs stay on the map after the dialog is closed and while the route is edited, and follow panning and zooming. The checked categories and the on/off state are remembered across restarts.
Where the data comes from
Showing POIs needs the offline POI data (.poi) covering the visible area; without it, only the offline map underneath is shown. Online services are not used. Opening the dialog downloads the POI data for the visible area if it is missing, but only when zoomed in; moving or zooming the map never starts a download.
Status line
The status line reports what is happening: Loading… while POI data downloads, No POI data when none exists for the visible area, Zoom in to see POIs when the visible area is too large (its diagonal must be at most 50 km, about a city), and <n> POIs once POIs are shown. At most 200 POIs per top-level category are shown, those nearest to the center of the map first. Hovering a POI marker shows its name and category.
Add a POI to the position list
Right-click a POI marker and choose Add POI to insert it into the position list, with its name, after the selected position (or at the end). The entry appears only when the mouse is over a POI.
Close
Press Close to close the dialog.
