Export saved places and lists from Google Maps

To download your saved places as a JSON file from Google Maps, follow these steps:

1. Open Google Takeout:
   • Go to takeout.google.com and sign in with the Google account you use in Google Maps.
2. Select data to export:
   • In Google Takeout, you'll see a list of Google services you can download data from.
   • By default, every service is selected. Click "Deselect all" to start with an empty selection.
   • Scroll down to "Maps (Your Places)" and select it — it holds your starred places.
   • For your lists, also select "Saved". Make sure no other service is selected.
3. Customise the export:
   • Click the "Multiple formats" button under "Maps (Your Places)" to confirm the export is set to JSON.
4. Create Export:
   • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Next step".
   • Choose your preferred delivery method (e.g., download link via email).
   • Select the export frequency, file type, and size (the default settings are usually fine).
   • Click on "Create export".
5. Download the File:
   • Google will begin preparing your data, which may take some time depending on the amount of data.
   • Once the export is ready, you'll receive an email with a link to download your data.
   • Follow the link in the email to download the ZIP file containing your exported data.
6. Extract the JSON File:
   • After downloading the ZIP file, extract its contents to find the "Saved Places.json" file.
   • This file will contain all your saved places from Google Maps.

Your saved places JSON file will include only the locations you have marked, such as starred places or places labeled by you.
