Using GPSBabel
RouteConverter reads and writes the large majority of its formats on its own — it does not need GPSBabel for them. GPSBabel is only used for a handful of binary and rarely-used formats, such as Garmin MapSource, Garmin PCX5, Garmin POI, OziExplorer, Magellan MapSend and a few others.
How RouteConverter finds GPSBabel
RouteConverter looks for GPSBabel in this order:
- the path you set in the options dialog,
- the usual install locations for your operating system,
- the GPSBabel binary bundled with RouteConverter.
Using your own GPSBabel
If the bundled GPSBabel does not work for you — for example on Linux, where installing your distribution's package is the better choice — install a build that fits your system and set its path under Extras → Options → GPSBabel.
