Merge several GPX files into one
To join the tracks of many GPX files, open the first file, import all the others into its position list in one go, and save the result. This works the same for routes and for other formats such as NMEA or CSV.
Join files in one step
- Open the first file with File → Open….
- Select the last position in the position list, or none to append at the end.
- Choose Positionlist → Import from a File…. The file dialog accepts several files at once: select them all.
- Wait until the import is finished.
- If the files are not in time order, choose Positionlist → Sort By → Date and Time.
- Save with Positionlist → Export to a File….
Every position of every selected file is inserted into the current position list after the selected position. If no position is selected, the positions are appended at the end.
Files that hold several tracks
A GPX file can contain more than one track. Import from a File… inserts the positions of all of them into the current list, so the result is one list. Opening a GPX file with File → Open… instead shows each track as its own position list; the Positionlist menu then offers Merge….
Merge position lists that are already open
When a file shows several position lists, choose Positionlist → Merge… and pick another list from the submenu. Its positions are inserted after the selected position of the current list, and the other list disappears. The submenu is disabled while only one list is open.
Keep the result as a track
Save as GPX and the merged list is written as one track or route, depending on the list type. See Convert a track to a route and back to change the type, and The position list for the other list actions.
