Getting started with RouteConverter
The essentials for working with a route, track or waypoint list.
Load a file
- Drag the file's icon from your desktop and drop it onto the RouteConverter window, or
- File → Open….
Pick what you're looking at
The dropdown above the position list switches between Route, Track and Waypoints — it decides how the positions are connected and drawn on the map.
Choose visible columns
Right-click the position list's header row, or use View → Show Column, to add or remove columns such as elevation, speed or time.
Move a position
Drag its marker on the map. The position list updates immediately.
Undo
Edit → Undo steps back through every change, one at a time.
Remove duplicate or unnecessary positions
Position → Delete Duplicate Positions… offers three ways to thin a list: by distance (drop points too close together), by order (keep every Nth point), or by significance (Douglas-Peucker — drops points that barely affect the shape of the track).
Split, merge and import
- Positionlist → Split cuts the list at the selected position, e.g. into daily stages.
- Positionlist → Merge… appends another open position list to this one.
- Positionlist → Import from a File… inserts positions read from a different file, without opening it as a separate tab.
Save
File → Save as… offers every writable format in a dropdown, independent of the format you opened.
