History

Map&Guide's Motorrad-Routenplaner 2005/06 edition produced this export format for motorcycle tour routes; no publication date beyond the product's own "2005/06" name is documented for the format itself. Map&Guide is part of PTV Group's Logistics line, the same publisher behind the already-supported Map&Guide Tourenplaner .bcr format, though the two are separate products and file formats.

Where it is used

The format exists purely for exporting a planned motorcycle tour out of Map&Guide Motorrad-Routenplaner for use elsewhere; per GPSBabel's own documentation, it is an export-only format that GPSBabel itself cannot write back to.

Structure

An XML file describing a route as a sequence of stations. GPSBabel's own format option, "routevia" ("Include only via stations in route"), reflects that a .tef route can carry both the stations someone actually chose and additional calculated route points in between.

How widespread

Tied to a single, specific 2005/06 motorcycle-touring edition of Map&Guide; anyone converting a .tef file today is working with an export from that particular software rather than a currently-marketed product.

RouteConverter support

Reads Tour Exchange Format

RouteConverter reads this format but cannot write it.

RouteConverter reads Tour Exchange Format files through the bundled GPSBabel; writing is not supported, matching the format's own nature as an export-only format.
