History

The M-241 was made by Holux Technology Corp., a Taiwanese GPS-hardware maker. Two hardware variants existed: a yellow model — popular with photographers for geotagging — using a Silicon Labs CP210X USB chip, and a red/white model that GPSBabel's own documentation says is incompatible with GPSBabel and was discontinued quickly, attributing this to Holux going out of business. No specific release date is documented for the device.

Where it is used

The logger stores up to roughly 100,000 trackpoints in its own flash memory in a default configuration; an extended logging mode exists but needs third-party software (BT747) to configure, and waypoint storage requires enabling the device's own "recording reason" (RCR) setting. Data is downloaded over USB rather than Bluetooth, since most M-241 units lack a Bluetooth command interface.

Structure

A proprietary binary container specific to the MTK logger chipset, not published as an open specification; the same reader also handles binary track data from the related Holux GPSport 245 and Holux M1000c devices.

How widespread

A discontinued consumer GPS logger; files in this format today are old track downloads from an M-241-era device rather than an export from a currently-sold product.
