Glopus (.tk)

A Glopus .tk file is a track/waypoint file from Glopus, software that turns a Windows Mobile/PDA car-navigation device into an outdoor GPS unit with hiking maps, POIs and tracking.

History

Glopus 1.0 first shipped as a free, time-limited PDA/PPC program in December 2003 and later became shareware, per its own published version history. It has been continuously updated since — including an English-language release in 2010 and, per a 2011 report, an expansion adding free OpenStreetMap hiking maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its own history page lists no update after version 2.06.1 (15 March 2014).

Where it is used

Glopus runs alongside third-party car-navigation software (originally Windows Mobile / Pocket PC devices, later also PC and Android) and adds an outdoor hiking-map layer, POI management, track recording and route planning on top of it.

Structure

A plain-text file: one line per point, each either a simple "latitude,longitude" pair or a "latitude,longitude,comment" triple.

How widespread

Its own published history shows no update since March 2014, so it should be treated as a legacy tool rather than an actively maintained one; files in this format come from older Glopus installations.
