Magellan: file formats and how to transfer routes
The Magellan formats belong to the eXplorist outdoor handhelds and to the MapSend desktop mapping software used to load maps onto them and pull data back off.
Formats Magellan reads
| Format | Extension | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Magellan (recommended) | .log, .rte, .wpt | Waypoints, routes and logged tracks for eXplorist handhelds and MapSend. |
Which format to pick
Pick Magellan Route for routes, Magellan MapSend for waypoints and Magellan Explorist for logged tracks.
How to get a route onto Magellan
- Open the route, track or POI file in RouteConverter via File → Open.
- Pick Magellan Route in the Save as dropdown.
- Save it via File → Save as. Load the saved file with MapSend, or copy it to the device as the vendor's manual describes for the model.
