About Garmin POI (.gpi)

GPI is Garmin's custom points-of-interest container — coordinates and names plus a bitmap icon, a proximity-alert distance and a speed threshold per point — produced by Garmin's POI Loader utility. Loaded onto Garmin automotive, motorcycle and handheld receivers as a custom POI set — speed cameras, fuel stops, dealer networks. RouteConverter reads and writes GPI through the bundled GPSBabel; a commercially encrypted GPI file cannot be produced or read outside its vendor's own software.
