Elevation Services

RouteConverter uses external elevation services to lookup the elevation information for a GPS position. This elevation information is visible in the position list and the elevation profile.

The following elevation services exist:

• <Automatic>
• geonames.org (online)
• Jonathan de Ferranti DEM1
• Jonathan de Ferranti DEM3
• NASA SRTM1
• NASA SRTM3

Automatic

<Automatic> is the best choice unless you know, what differentiates the elevation services. It queries offline services with best accuracy and highest data quality first and tries to find a result.

Online

geonames.org ist marked as (online) since it requires an Internet connection.

All online services limit the usage of their service:

• geonames.org limits the number of requests per user to 2000 credits per hour and 30000 per day. A a request costs 0.1 to 0.3 credits. By default the account routeconverter is used which is shared among all RouteConverter users but you could setup an own account via the hidden features
